Cincinnati Pro-Lifers Raise $ for League
Joe Scheidler ran into Jenn Geroux in October at a day of prayer at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington. Jenn thought Joe looked a little worn out and asked how things were going. Joe shared with her that finances at the League had been rather strained through the end of summer and into the fall.
The next thing we knew, Jenn had organized a fundraising event in her hometown of Cincinnati. With the assistance of a couple of other dedicated pro-lifers she wrote and called everyone she knew and invited them to a dessert gathering at The Underground, a unique sports-oriented venue on the west side of Cincinnati.
Cincinnati's Cream-of-the-Crop
Over a hundred "cream-of-the-crop" Ohioans and Kentuckians came to The Underground in a cold, persistent rain on Tuesday evening, November 30. One especially cooperative parish had rescheduled the first evening of a Novena to the Immaculate Conception so that the people could attend both the Novena and the fundraiser.
Jenn asked Joe and Ann Scheidler to speak to the group about the work of the Pro-Life Action League and the "honor" of being sued by the National Organization for Women. Bob Cetrulo, director of Northern Kentucky Right to Life introduced Joe Scheidler. He read from the foreword of Joe's book, CLOSED: 99 Ways to Stop Abortion, and announced that he was going to raffle off his first edition copy of the book and that Scheidler would autograph it.
Joe spoke first about the importance of pro-life activism and presented evidence that the League's programs are effective. Ann then presented an overview of the NOW v. Scheidler RICO case, including the Supreme Court 8-1 victory and the languishing status of the case in the Court of Appeals. The Scheidlers then took questions.
CLOSED Fetches Great Auction Price
Following the talks, Cetrulo came back to the podium and opened bidding on his copy of CLOSED. Jenn's dad and brothers kept the bidding going, with others jumping in with bids until the price had gone to $350! The gentleman who won the auction had planned to make a substantial donation and joined the bidding for the fun of it.
Later Tuesday evening, Jenn appeared live on MSNBC's Scarborough Country to debunk the new movie lionizing Alfred Kinsey, and said that Kinsey was greatly responsible, through false and distorted data, for the degeneration of morals in our society.
Successful Fundraiser
Geroux and family and friends raised over $9,000 for the Pro-Life Action League at the event and provided Joe and Ann Scheidler with the opportunity to spend a great evening with the "cream-of-the-crop."
Jenn and her husband Dan are the parents of nine children. Dan runs a Catholic bookstore and gift shop at 7015 Miami Ave. in Cincinnati. Jenn is a nurse and serves as the director of Women Influencing the Nation (WIN), an organization aimed at bringing the culture back to its Christian roots.
The Scheidlers visited the Catholic Shop before heading back to Chicago and found it brimming with wonderful gifts for the whole family and the best selection of Catholic books available anywhere.
